Growth Hack: Redirect Google Shopping traffic to your store
And if you’re not actively optimizing your products for Google Shopping’s organic traffic placements, you’re leaving money on the table.
It’s easy to confuse standard Google search results with Google Shopping results. Don’t. When optimized, your store appears in Shopping results appears (for free, and under the “Products” tab) with a product image, price and link to your store.
Like OwlsMatrix appears when you search for “funny golf shirts for women” for example.
To learn how Google chooses which stores to feature in Shopping results, I looked at the results of searching for “funny golf shirt for women”
Owlsmatrix stands out, outperforming eBay, Etsy, Spreadshirt and co.
Builtwith tells us that Owlsmatrix is a Shopify store running a custom theme, with Google Analytics, site tag and Google customer reviews installed.
Ahrefs tells us it only started receiving organic traffic in 2021. So store age is no barrier to organic results, it seems.
Now, to the meat and bones.
Images appear to play a huge role in Google Shopping results.
Almost all featured images have a white background for the main image.
All featured images are crisp, clear, and take up > 70% of space
With/without models, Google doesn’t care
All product titles have a variation of “women’s golf shirt”
To keep this short, let me know if you’d like a deep dive case study into Google shopping results and I’ll create one for you.
Deep dive case study into Google Shopping for Q4? |
Challenge: Optimize Your Store’s Performance in Google Shopping 🚦
This week, set 60 minutes aside to make highest positive impact on your Google Shopping traffic and sales in Q4.
Dust up your Google Merchant Center Account
Go to Products > Needs Attention and work through the list.
If you have spare time, review your main background images and swap dark backgrounds for light.
Tip: Use the Product Studio to get through these quickly with AI.
Trend Alert: Whole Body Deodorant💧
Whole body deodorants bring odor protection for various body parts - not just underarms. They are usually aluminum-free products made for customers seeking more comprehensive odor protection.
Since December 2023, searches for “whole body deodorant” have surpassed that of the previous 20 years, attracting $2M in monthly sales.
Here’s how you can jump on the trend:
Personalization is key in health and beauty. Test personalized offers and formulations e.g whole body deodorant for men, for sensitive skin, for oily skin, etc
Test different applications (sticks, sprays, etc)
Explore alternative scents, as scent was the No. 1 complaint if the leading brand
