Industry Update: Shopify’s Big Local Play

In response to the recent trade wars announcement, Shopify’s CEO just dropped a game-changing update. He’s advocating a “Buy Local” campaign in all but 1 of the countries involved) (US, Mexico, and Canada).

To implement this, Shop.app is launching a “buy local” option at some point today “App Store review willing”.

For you, this means more visibility if you ship locally/have a physical store, more opportunities to compete with big retailers on proximity, another reason to optimize your Shop.app presence ASAP. (If you don’t have a presence on Shop app, start by downloading it from the Shopify marketplace)

Could this be a shift toward hyper-local e-commerce? We’re watching this one closely.

Growth Hack: The Power of Strategic Partnerships

If you’re not tapping into social media partnerships, you’re leaving money on the table. Just ask Tiem Athletic. Once they found their winner, (spin cycling trainers), they leveraged partnerships with spin class instructors and boutique gyms to put their cycling shoes directly in front of the right audience.

There’s a boatload of posts like these all over Instagram, with prominent figures in the spin cycling world plugging away at these trainers

Why it works:

  • You instantly gain access to an engaged, relevant audience.

  • Social proof from trusted figures makes conversions easier.

  • You create a win-win relationship—partners get content, you get sales.
